About TypeCal
TypeCal was born out of…
a vision between academics and practicing calligraphers and designers engaging the community. Team TypeCal felt a visible need to establish a focused and specialized platform as a springboard for dialog and communication. Thus, in 2019, the first TypeCal Symposium, titled "Intersection held in Kuwait. We brought together international and local scholars and creatives to share and exchange their knowledge about typography and calligraphy.
In 2020, TypeCal from Home emerged during the challenging times of Covid-19, bringing speakers and workshops to your home. We aimed to create a dynamic platform to engage and challenge thinking and applications in typography and calligraphy with creatives locally and internationally.
In addition, we hope to connect creatives in the region to further encourage and foster innovation with cross-language solutions, which will enrich and activate these segments.
Our commitment and goals are to build and foster dialog, innovation, and synergy through this regional and global platform by enabling access to these experiences that will take calligraphy and type design to the next level.
We are a team of volunteers (professionals, faculty, students) working on this fantastic initiative.
